The device manager can be used to effectively control the various devices you may want to use with Pocket Inventory. Some of the actions that can be performed include:
This section covers the following topics:
At the top of the device manager the total number of keys and the total number of available keys are displayed. The total number of keys reflects the number of licenses purchased. The number of available keys is the number of keys minus the number of registered devices. To register a new device you must have at least one available key. When you have no devices registered, including when you first start the application, the number of available keys will be the same as the number of total keys. To register a new device when there are no available keys you must first Un-register a device.
When attempting to register a new device make sure the device is in it's cradle and Active-Sync is running. Pocket Inventory will detect the device and attempt to register it as an authorized Pocket Inventory device. Pocket Inventory only requires the user to enter a name for future reference to the newly registered device. Once registered the device will be added to the device list with a starting status of Available and a starting comment of Device Registered [Todays Date]. The number of available keys will also go down by one to account for the new device. Once a device is registered it is added to the list and does not need to be saved.
To De-Register a device and remove it from the device list, highlight the device to be removed in the list and click 'De-register'. The device does not have to be connected to perform the De-Registration. Make sure the device's status is "Available" or Pocket Inventory will prevent you from De-Registering the device. In the event of a checked-out device being unable to be checked back in (e.g. broken, hard reset performed) the user must clear the device and then De-Register it. Once the device is De-Registered, all purchase and sales orders previously checked out by that device will be released and the number of available keys will increase by one. Once a device is De-Registered it is deleted from the list and does not need to be saved.
The device manager contains a list of the currently registered devices, their status, and their comments. The comments column contains a view of the latest comments.
Highlight a device and click Rename to rename a device in the device list.
Double-Click a device on the device list to view and edit all of the comments for the device.
Highlight a device on the device list and click Clear Device to manually check-in a device. This action should only be performed if the device cannot be checked in. Clearing the device will change its status from "Checked-Out" to "Available" and will release all purchase or sales order the device currently has checked out. No data will be retrieved from the device.
A device's status will either be "Available" or "Checked-Out". If a device is available it can be checked-out and prepared with new data. If a device is checked-out it can be checked-in and the data can be retrieved. A checked-out device can also be cleared if needed to manually check it in.
